Anti-Fashionable Weekends and Joe Fresh

The last weekend was a rainy disaster but the one before was positively lovely despite being rained out of our fireworks which were actually below mediocre. I’ve been really lazy and just not dressing up at all but I’ve really been taking the time to appreciate Vancouver for its best most wonderful season: summer. My weekend in pictures:

Happy Birthday to ME!

My oh my, it has been a looong month and a bit. But it has been worth every cent, literally. I have been watching my bank account grow and it is so rewarding to be able to help my parents out and buy them things. They deserve it after all the things they’ve given me. It’s taken me 24 years to see that.

It’s my birthday today and mother nature gifted me with a beautiful day to celebrate my birthday with my family.

I had a lovely time with all my friends last night. Thank you to all that came out for me. It honestly means the world to me.

My royal blue dress was from Jacob. For the first time, I tried on one dress and bought it for my birthday dress. I didn’t go on a long search because I loved the first dress I tried on. I loved it. It was the perfect colour and the ruching on the bust was so pretty. Here’s a closer look..

I got some amazing gifts last night including the shoes from Townshoes I mentioned in this post from bff and friends. I’m breaking them in as I’m typing this entry. They are a little tight around the toes at the moment, but the sales associate assured that they will stretch out. I also got lots of nail polish including the OPI nail polish from the Shrek collection mentioned in this post. Obviously, my friends have been paying attention to my blog! I also got some shorts from Aritzia that I’ve been eyeing for almost a year. And a Clipa! I’ve been reading about those on tPF! I have generous friends. I love you all! 🙂

Anti-Shopping Challenge Update #1

It’s been about three weeks since I started my shopping ban and I think I’ve been doing really well. I met with my bank manager today to order some cheques and he asked me, “How do you have so much money in your account?”. At that point, I laughed so hard I almost had tears in my eyes and I told him about my shopping ban. It’s not that I have so much money in my account but I guess he’s used to me not having so much money in my account. He told me that I qualified to get FREE cheques as long as I keep my balance above a certain amount. I told him it should be a problem if I adhere to my shopping ban. WHEEE! I like free things! 🙂

Since I can’t shop, I’ve decided to share some of my nail polish collection:

My nail polish rack

It doesn’t really fit all my nail polish. I think my collection has outgrown my rack. I need to either get another one, or give away some of the colours that I’m not really using.

Essie Chinchilly

This is one of my favourite colours at the moment. Not that I restrain myself in terms of nail polish colours, but it is conservative enough for the office but still very current. I have a business casual event so I decided to take off my OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui which is a beautiful shade of turquoise-y blue and paint my nails with a more appropriate taupe-ish colour.

Now for more online shopping torture:

Citizens of Humanity on

Skull & Bunny Avedon Skinny

I’ve always wanted a pair of Skull & Bunny jeans from COH and these are available from Revolve Clothing but not for international export. It’s better this way since last year’s Skull & Bunnys were way cuter and a boyfit which is more comfortable than these but the crystals on these are nice too.

Coach Sydney available at Coach Stores for $798.00

I’ve always been a fan of Coach’s leather. I love a bag with more than one way to carry it. Classic turnlock flap is reminiscent of vintage coach and the chain strap is so elegant. Not much brand-screaming with the subtle tags on the handle. Only drawback to the Sydney is that the chain is not removable. I guess only the Marc Jacobs Stam is perfect… *sigh* It will be mine! I guess I will not be using my preferred customer card to get 25% off on this bag. It is up for grabs to anyone in Vancouver who will be purchasing something from Coach before May 9th. Mother’s Day is coming!

All right, enough torture! Time for bed. 😉

Steveston for fish and chips at Pajo's

What the Shrek??

Anyone who knows me knows that I love nail polish, especially OPI and Essie. OPI’s newest collection is the Shrek Forever After collection which is named after their latest movie. I’m loving the brights spring colours and seriously wanting to try the pastel purple. But, I simply can not. No shopping until my birthday. It’s going to be a long (over) 3 weeks…

Since I can not swatch these for you, and my favourite nail polish blog has not swatched or reviewed this collection, check out this woman’s  very thorough review.

shop Shop SHOP!

After all the Christmas holiday bustle, I let myself go and bought a few things for myself.  I’m not proud of myself, but I got some great stuff!  Boxing Day was good to me and I headed down to the states for some over the border shopping.  Now, what did I buy…

On Boxing Day, I headed to Best Buy and bought:

Western Digital My Passport Elite 500GB $99.99CDN

Skullcandy Ink'd earphones $9.99CDN

I braved the crowds in the mall to also get these:

Moleskine plain notebook $8.00CDN

Current/Elliot Boyfriend in Super Worn $149.99CDN

OPI in Modern Girl $6.00CDN plus four other colours including Bright Power, Alpine Snow, and India Mood for Love

Then I went to States and got:

Hello Kitty Love Tee for $14.50USD

Converse Gold Metallic Low Tops $29.99USD

And then yesterday, I went to Richmond and bought….

Wait for it…

ToyWatch Heavy Metal Mini in Silver/White $280CDN

Take that, Beyond the Rack! I don’t need you to get a ToyWatch.  In fact, I got 20% off and one tax. HMPH!

Overall, very successful post Christmas shopping.  Now, I must stop…. 🙂

I heart…

  • OPI nail polish. Sitting in front of the television and painting my nails is soo relaxing. I guess it’s not just OPI nail polish I love but nail polish in general. I like the consistency of China Glaze and am looking into trying Essie. I am experimenting with sparkles at the moment for the holidays. I have a growing collection of nail polish right now and may start reviewing new colours and brands as I try them. Sometimes, when I’m feeling nice, I do my girlfriends’ nails and share my nail polish with friends. SOMETIMES.

  • Rain Boots. My Hello Kitty rainboots are getting their share of rain at the moment since the clouds have decided to rain non-stop for the last week or so. I’m so glad I bought them on sale last winter. I’ve been wearing them to work and then changing into more office appropriate shoes. I’ve been eyeing the Burberry rain boots recently but I don’t think I have the heart to spend over $200 CDN on a pair of rain boots. Maybe next year…

  • My Job. At a time when jobs are so sparse, I feel sooo fortunate to have a job. In fact, I have two part-time jobs that work soo well together that it’s almost like having one full time job. It also helps that they’re in the same building. I love the people I work with and I love what I do. 🙂
  • Engagements. My girlfriend just got engaged recently and I’m so happy for her. She’s the first out of our high school group of friends and it just feels like we’re growing up since someone is getting married and moved out on their own. I can’t wait to see her walk down the aisle. And I can’t wait to shop for dresses with her! 😀
  • Circle scarves. I am currently looking for a nice full circle scarf. My Free People is nice but I’d really like to get one that’s thicker and maybe knit. I love how versatile they are and how easy they are to throw on. No complicated knots or elaborate ways to tie them.
  • Polish or Perish. My newly discovered nail polish blog. Seven women, one blog, countless nail polish swatches. Their nail polish addiction makes mine look amateurish and silly. Watch them try different colours and then try the ones you like.

Things I don’t like so much:

  • Current Weather. It has been raining sooo much lately. I think it has been raining for a week and a half stright, maybe more. My favourite Vancouver fall/winter weather is when it’s cold but not raining. I live for nice fall days when I don’t have to hop puddles or take the umbrella out of my purse. I really want to wear my new Jimmy Choo for H&M flats out but I don’t think it will be an option for the next two months or so. meh.
  • Oxford Shoes. I’m just not feelin’ them. Maybe they’ll warm up to me and I’ll end up really liking them. But they are a little too manly for me. In fact, I don’t even really like them on men.
  • Credit Card Bills.  Enough said.
